Highland Park History HIke
Nestled in Pittsburgh’s East End, Highland Park boasts one of the prettiest green spaces in the city. Part of the Pittsburgh Park Conservancy, this area is one of city’s most used regional parks and features a beautiful Victorian era entry garden complete with gardens, fountain, and reflecting pool. It also boasts a recently updated Super Playground and a public pool. Bring your curiosity as you hike through this lovely space, making a double loop around both the main reservoir and the outlying trails. Along the way you will learn about the history of the neighborhood of Highland Park as well as the park itself. Also plan on seeing some of the statuary and memorials for which the neighborhood is known.
This outdoor experience will cover approximately 2 miles and is suitable for all levels of experience and ability. Two hours are set aside for this outing; the actual time in activity will be around 90 minutes. While the area you will cover will not be large, there will be a few longer hills, as well as a few steps, over a combination of pavement and dirt trails. Hikes will always ascend and descend at a slow and steady pace. Check the forecast before the outing to dress best for the unpredictable March weather. Bring water to stay hydrated and wear supportive shoes appropriate for trails. Hiking poles are not required but highly recommended.
