Carnegie Museum of Art encourages you to play with your food! A new program, launched during farmer’s market season 2018, saw us sharing our love of fruits and vegetables with audiences in Swissvale, the North Side, and Wilkinsburg. Teaching artists and program director Valerie Herrero traveled to farmer’s markets in these communities to share art making activities with children and families. Participants squished and painted with strawberries, made prints with cabbages, and created art inspired by fruits and veggies found both in artworks and in everyday life. We shared our favorite recipes and fun facts with our visitors about a variety of fruits and vegetables and talked to them about artists in Carnegie Museum of Art’s collection that use fruits and vegetables in their work.
